Patna Airport or Jaiprakash Narayan Airport as it is also called is the lifeline of Patna city, connecting it to different parts of the world. The Airport was built in the year 1973 by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for the convenience of the traveller. The airport has been built at a distance of nearly 5 kilometres south-west of Patna and can be easily reached by a Taxi or Private Car. Considered as the 22nd busiest airport in India, it handles the major air-traffic coming to Bihar. The airport is making rapid progress in terms of infrastructure and is well-equipped to handle the passengers & cargo load effectively. Both international & domestic flights operate from the airport; making it quiet easy to reach Patna from different parts of the world. Patna airport holds the merit of receiving an award from the Airport Authority of India for having the Best Fire Station in the whole of Eastern India.

Patna Airport Authority which comes under the Airport Authority of India manages the overall operations of the airport and makes all efforts to provide the best services to the passengers. It provides facilities like custom counters, security services, maintenance staff, cafeteria, air traffic control, cargo services, etc. The Airport Authority of India in coordination with Patna Airport Authority is planning to open a new International Airport near to the Patna Airport in Bihta region.

Terminals at Patna Airport

The Patna Airport is spread across an area of 254 acres; it includes one runway built at 07/25 with an asphalt surface which measures 1,954 * 45 metres. The airport has an elevation of nearly 170 feet above sea level.

Domestic -Terminal 1: From this Terminal a number of Domestic Flights operate to 12 main cities of India. Jet Airways, Air India and IndiGo are some of the leading airlines operating domestic flights from this terminal.

International & Domestic- Terminal 2: This Terminal is equipped with International Flight Facility, though regular flights do not operate as of now from here as presently renovation work is going on. Mainly this terminal caters to private jets & cargo planes.

Cargo Terminal: This terminal has been built to handle the cargo operations and is situated close to the Terminal 2. The Cargo Terminal helps to transport goods across India and has a customs counter to keep a check on any dangerous material. A Hanger where Private Jets can be kept is also present here.

Cafeteria/Eating Joints: The Airport Authority has made the provisions for a cafeteria in the premises of the airport; the swanky cafeteria serves delicious snacks, soft-drinks, coffee, tea & mineral water so that one can grab a quick bite or spend some time while travelling.

Baggage Services: If you have luggage while travelling, rest assured as Baggage service is also available at the airport. One can take the trolley service to take luggage till the check-in counter. If by mistake some luggage is missing, there is a lost and found customer care service present at the airport to assist you with the same. All these services are free of cost for the travellers.

Duty Free Shops: A number of shops are present which include duty free shops as well as shops selling basic things like water, newspaper, magazines, etc. Visitors coming from other cities or countries can buy souvenirs related to the art & culture of Patna from here for their friends & family.

Security & Other Services: The Patna Airport Authority has taken substantial measures to ensure that a fool-proof security system is present at the airport for the safety of the travellers. Besides these disaster management services to prevent any untoward incident like terrorist attack, fire, floods, earthquake, etc. are also in place and are checked from time to time.

How to Reach Patna Airport ?

One can hire cabs, taxis or take a private vehicle to reach the airport; the private cab services have different airport packages to suit your needs on a pick & drop or km/hour basis which one can choose as per the requirements. Prepaid Taxi booths are also available at the airport to reach the city. Distance from Bus Stand to Patna Airport: Mithapur is the nearest bus stand to Patna airport located at a distance of 7 kms. Distance from Railway Station to Patna Airport: The Patna Junction or Railway Station is nearly 5 kms away from Patna Airport. Patliputra Junction is also present nearby to the Patna Railway Station.
