Profile of Patna

Patna, is the capital of Bihar. It is the headquarters of Patna district and Patna division and Bihar State.It is  located on the south bank of the river Ganga.It  is the centre of administration and education of Bihar.It was known as Pataliputra, in ancient times and was the citadel of learning and knowledge.Ajatsutra, the shifted his capital of the Magadha empire , from Rajgir to Pataliputra, following the prophesy made by Lord  Buddha.It became famous as the capital of the dynastic rules under the Mauryas, Guptas, Nandas, Pals and the Sungas. The main train station , the airport and the hotels are in the western half, called Bankipur. The historic places are in the east, the older Chowk area.
