Khuda Bakhsh Oriental library
Bakhsh senior, originally from Chapra, Bihar, expressed his desire of opening a library during his last few days. When Khuda Bakhsh was well established and also added more manuscripts to the existing collection, he decided to donate it by an act of trust. Timur Nama, Safinatul Auliya, Shah Nama, Diwan-e- Hafiz, Padshah Nama are some of the important manuscripts. It also has a book of military accounts of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, specimens of Mughal paintings, calligraphy etc. One of the most unique collections is a page of Quran written on deer skin. The manuscripts are in Arabic, Urdu, Turkish, Hindi and Sanskrit.
The present director is Mohammad Ziauddin Ansari. Many seminars of national and international level are organised in the library where eminent personalities, intellectuals and scholars, research fellows and others gives lecture on various topics, actively participates in debates and group discussions. The library also exhibits its collection from time to time.
Khuda Bakhsh Award of Rs 1 lakh is given by the President of India to the scholars for their outstanding performance and life-time achievements in the area as specified by the library.
