Railway Connectivity in Patna

Patna is well-connected by railway lines to the rest of India. Most of the towns in and around Patna are also interconnected among themselves. The city serves as an important railway terminal with six major stations-Patna Junction, Danapur Station, Rajendranagar Terminal, Patliputra Junction, Gulzarbagh Station and Patna Sahib Station. The city is well connected with Gaya, Biharsharif, Khagaria, Jehanabad, Rajgir, Islampur through daily passenger and express train services. Taxis in Patna

Most of the taxis plying on the roads of Patna serves as a preferred mode of transportation in the city. The fares are fixed depending on the destination and time spent waiting at a particular spot. Taxis are a good choice for comfortable and easy mode of transport within the city or to nearby places of Patna. Most of the Hotels also arrange for taxis per the request of the guests.

Autos in Patna

Autos are the most popular mode of transportation within the city as the fares are relatively lower as compared to taxis. The autos are called as "Tempu" in the local language. Most of the autos are painted black and yellow, but very few of them have meters. Generally the rates are fixed prior to boarding the auto in order to avoid bargain at a later stage.However most of the local autos are Shared Autos, as in the fare is paid per person to a particular destination. Off late, a four wheeled version of the autos, which are known as “Vikram" in the local language, is also available. These can be seen in white and yellow colour and are bigger compared to the three wheeled version. These have a capacity of 7 passengers. These autos are popular for long distance travel and is often seen plying on the Bailey road that connects Patna Junction to Danapur.

Cycle Ricksaws in Patna

Cycle rickshaws are used for short distances and in places were autos are not available. An average cycle rickshaw can accommodate 2 -3 passengers. However it is relatively highly priced in comparison to the autos as manual labour is involved in it. The fare can be bargained upon and fixed prior to boarding one of these.

Buses in Patna

All important destinations are well connected by the buses. There are plenty of city buses plying on the roads of Patna. These have a capacity of 25-30 people, but are mostly crowded through out the day. It is preferred mode of transported by the locals for travelling to their work places. Patna Metro Rail

The Bihar State Government has plans to build a metro rail in Patna city. The project has taken off and is in the process of completion. The first phase of the project is expected to be finished and operational by the year 2016. With the advent of metro rail, transportation within the city will become a lot more convenient.
